Description:
This silk 1950's vintage Aloha shirt was made by Royal Hawaiian. The image of Ukai, or cormorant fishing, appear on this shirt near a rocky shoreline against a beautiful creme background. Ukai has been used in Japan for over 1000 years and is done at night by boats with large fires hanging off poles and tethered birds. The fire attracts the sweetfish and enables the birds to see the fish. The throats of the birds are constructed by the fishermen enabling the fishermen to easily take the fish from the birds. This shirt has a perfectly matched left chest pocket, bamboo buttons, neckloop and vertical button holes. Size not marked but measures LARGE, in inches - Shoulders 19, Chest 24, Length 32 and Sleeves 10. Excellent condition - one repaired pinholes - see detail photo
